Omaruru

The Omaruru Municipality needs about N$172 million to service 1 732 residential and industrial plots over the next ten years.
Speaking to New Era last week the acting CEO of the municipality, Johanness Iipinge, said municipal officials have been working around the clock to come up with the money to address increasing land delivery demands at the town.
“Right now we are sitting with 2 192 applications of people who want land,” said Iipinge.
He says over the last two years the municipality managed to formalise 1 830 erven. The erven formalised are in Hakahana, 7de Laan, Sonskyn and Vyf Rand, of which 98 erven will be serviced within the next nine months.
Furthermore, Iipinge says in order to cope with the growing influx of people to the town, the municipality has also created four new townships that are currently under registration with the township board.
He said the new townships will constitute 1 085 new erven that will go a long way to alleviate the land deficit. “This will help solve the ongoing problem at the town,” stressed Iipinge.
Iipinge further said the municipality also availed land for the development of the Olympic Africa Staduim.
“This project has been progressing at a snail’s pace since its inception some years back. The municipality has availed the piece of land for this development that is owned and developed by the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) and funded by Olympic Africa in Dakar.” Iipinge highlighted the creation of the municipal website as one of the town’s achievements.
“Our aim is to provide a great opportunity for enhancing communication within the town, and greater community resilience.” He said through the website residents will be undated on planned developments.
“Our team will apply a continent management system (Web CMS), which is a bundled or stand-alone application to create, deploy, manage and store content on web pages,” explained the acting CEO.
He said this includes text and embedded graphics, photos, videos, audio and codes that display content or interacts with users.
