This year’s edition of the poplar Tour de Windhoek will be tougher, bigger and better compared to the previous editions, the race organisers said yesterday.

The first leg of the annual cycling event takes place today. It comprises the Dordabis Road Race, and Team Time Trial race. Tomorrow will be the Matchless Road Race and Kermesses at Pupkewitz Megabuild and on Sunday, riders will take on the Von Bach Dam Road Race.

Participants will start and finish in Windhoek. 

The event will see cyclists competing in the 109km, 58km, 72.4km, 94.6km and 102.8km distances. 

Namibia Cycling Federation’s vice president Nick du Plessis said they expect close to 150 participants, who include top riders from South Africa. 

He added that leading local cyclists such as Alex Miller, Vera Looser, Drikus Coetzee are anticipated to compete.
