Police seek assistance to apprehend teen’s murderers

RUNDU – The Namibian Police in Rundu are seeking public assistance to help track suspects who robbed and stabbed to death a male teenager on Friday.

The incidence happened at Rundu’s industrial area, between the Agro Marketing and Trade Agency and Puma service station along John Mutorwa Road, which was officially inaugurated the same day of the incident.

Police sources informed New Era that the area where the incident happened and its surrounding area has recently been a crime hotspot.

“It’s alleged that the deceased was found walking in the street as two boys approached him, held his hands behind the back and stabbed him in the chest. Thereafter, they robbed him of his cell phone, valued at N$2 500, and vanished into the bushes. The deceased died on the spot,’’ said Bonifatius Kanyetu, head of crime investigations in the Kavango East region.

The deceased was identified by his friend as Kahili Paulus (17), a learner at Sikanduko Combined School.

His next of kin were informed.
‘’Suspects are still unknown at this stage. Thus, they are not yet arrested. But police investigations continue,’’ Kanyetu added. He said if anyone has information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects, they should contact Detective Chief Inspector Johannes Kakoro at the Police Serious Crime sub-division on +264812582334.

In a separate crime report, the police at Kehemu police station,in the wee hours of Saturday, arrested two Angolan nationals who were found in possession of eight elephant tusks at Kayengona village, some 10km east of Rundu, along the Kavango River. Police said they received information about people who wanted to sell wildlife products.

Through a sting operation, undercover officers pretended to be buyers and apprehended the suspected poachers.

The suspected men, aged 37 and 50, are due for a court appearance today. The elephant tusks were seized, and will be used as exhibits.
